Every place has a unique assemblage of organisms. From the very smallest to the biggest members of the place
with all of their interactions, including, when present, humans.
What ' grows here' is a different story for each of us; because we live in different places, and because we are
unique indiviuals who interact in our own ways with the places in which we find, or put, ourselves.
But for all the perceived differences, there are deep commonalities and connections. 'Here' can be the yard
around our house, the local area where we live as defined by raw powerful geography or political boundaries, or
the whole planet. And it's all connected. Pluck a 'string' here and music, or cacaphony, is heard there. We are learning that
there is no 'away' (as a place to toss our trash).
For now, for here, for me, 'it grows here' means:
That which shows up at this place either:
- because it was here before me, or
- because of my attempts to grow it here, or
- in spite of my attempts to define should grow here.
This site is about the stories people want to tell about what grows where they are and how they support and are
supported by those organisms and ecosystems which make up their 'here'.
Almost certainly this webpage will morph and grow because that's what life does. Some of you reading this text
will be partners in, and agents of, the changes. Curious journey, life.
This website is under construction..So bear with me. I want to hear your, 'it grows here' stories and to post links to
other sites in the same theme. There are already so many wonderful places:
Phoenix Permaculture Guild
Polyface Farms
Crooked Sky Farms
to name a very very few.
Till then, feel free to sign my guestbook and tell me your "It grows here" story.
Best wishes,
Ruby
